About

OOL-IX is a community broadband project operating Australia-wide from Queensland's Gold Coast. It is a non-profit organisation in formation that adapts and builds on the system of the very successful Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), one of the largest Internet peering exchanges in the world, handling more than 9 TeraBytes per second in the peak hours [See the traffic graphs].

OOL-IX aims to bring together local expertise, local talents, and broadband enthusiasts with a view to provide the best possible outcome for all those involved in broadband roll-outs both on and around the Gold Coast.

You do not need to be a big ISP to join in. You don't need to be a Geek to join in. You may be doing home networks, office networks or networks for institutions and schools. You may be creating software applications or websites. You may be a broadband equipment vendor. Or you may just take pleasure in organising Plug-Fests, Oktober-Fests or similar happenings. If you have an affinity to any of those things then you should be part of the club.

Broadband now delivers telephony, videoconferences, television and advanced Internet services all over Internet Protocols. This creates opportunities for a large number of new applications, services and community development as never before.  Be a part of OOL-IX to get the best access and outcomes for both yourself and the community.  Should you wish to participate in any way, please contact the promoters, Chris Watts at Power Communications on  0414 800 105 or Ger Vloothuis at the Beechmont Broadband Boutique on 0408 379 233 .
